At the west of Kavala in the area of Krinides there is the archaeological area of Philippi. The first Christian city in Europe, visited by Saint Paul in 49 A.D. and from 2016 inscribed as a world heritage monument by Unesco. There you can visit the theatre of Philippi, the 1st Christian basilica, as well the prison of St Paul, the roman forum and the octagon part of Philippi.
Right next to the archaeological sight, in the two-floored museum the visitors can admire the findings of the site.
Continuing our tour we will visit the village of Lidia, where the modern baptistery is built right next to river Zigaktis. There, St Paul baptized Lidia, the first Christian woman in Europe.
